I'm not sure about these bluegrass crossovers. I appreciate the artistry of showing that you can do (say) gangster rap with a banjo, but if you want to use a banjo to show how hardcore you are there are plenty of murder ballads already in the genre.
Yeah, none of them sound as good as the original rock versions, and none of them sound like great bluegrass.
I do kinda like the band Gangstagrass which combines bluegrass instrumentals with rap vocals. But that's a genuine hybrid, not bluegrass players trying to show they can do rap or a rapper trying to show he can do bluegrass.
