We remember in honor of our parents or grandparents. When we are gone, maybe our children will remember. Once our ancestors did mighty things in response to a great provocation. It was long ago now, but they were great deeds.

One of my students great-grandfather was on a ship at Pearl. The student doesn't remember which one, but is probably going to look and find out. I heard Gabby Gabreski talking about the attack. (And learned why he got nicknamed Gabby . . .) It's not as distant as it seems, in some ways.

The late Neptunus Lex wrote about entering Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Constellation:

Lex was such a good writer.
