Undocumented immigrants learn
a lesson from Animal House.
More than 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought here as kids, myself included, have willingly handed over our personal information to the federal government as part of a program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The program, started by President Obama through executive action in 2012, was supposed to temporarily shield us from deportation and give us temporary employment authorization.
And people wonder why the NRA is so dead-set against a gun registry.

Regrettably, they were suckered.
However.
The program, started by President Obama through executive action....
What part of the national-level disdain for Obama, for rule by fiat, for unrestricted borders/immigration (rightly or wrongly) did they not understand or ignore?
temporarily shield us
What part of "temporary" was unclear to them?
I'm sympathetic to their plight: they entered illegally through no fault of their own. But I'm sympathetic only to a degree--see above, and consider how many of the (young) adults among them moved to get right with the law.

They could join the Mobile Infantry. Service guarantees citizenship.
Actually, as that article makes clear, the process for undocumented immigrants to join the military is pretty poorly fleshed out. It's there, but it's not currently an option for everyone.
But it strikes me as the workable solution to these cases: we could let them join the military as we would lawful immigrants, gaining citizenship through their service.
Were VISTA and the Peace Corps what they started out as and what they were represented to be, I'd look at extending that citizenship through service path to these two organizations, also.

Another example: the military using our SSNs as ID numbers. Bad, bad policy. My husband's SSN was available via Google after they idiotically posted a promotion list ... complete with SSNs.
So it's not just malice we need to worry about. It's stupidity :(
Usually in this kind of civilization context, people will kick out those that don't belong, then they will turn on each other once they run out of people to blame politically for their own problems.
Blacks, Palestinians, slave lords all shared that in common. In the US, there's a lot of groups and factions that can start blaming each other for their own problems, and then use that as justification for conflict or to kick them out.
Reagan's amnesty was probably just kicking the can down the road, but he couldn't be expected to assume that his fellow Democrat countrymen would become traitors in the future.
If Democrats are traitors, then why are the poor being kicked out? It's another one of those peasant preferences. People are saving up for the grand course.
