An Airport in Taiwan

Tom Tugendhat is the new Shadow Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom; I met him on the Taiwan trip because he happened to be there too. Cool guy, with a military intelligence and special operations career and a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan.

He has an article (W.Post original, but paywalled) on a concern in Taiwan around an airport on an island that, while currently under Taiwan's jurisdiction, is physically quite close to the mainland by comparison to the Isle of Formosa that is Taiwan's main island.

It's somewhat inside-baseball for most Americans, but it's an aspect of the conflict that I'm fairly confident Hall readers haven't heard about.

Holy smokes, I feel I am reasonably well informed and geographically literate. I had no idea there was an island just off the Mainland China coast that was Republic of China territory.

Well now you know, and knowing is half the battle. (The other half is likely to be fighting Communists.)
