Scales, Eyes

Long-time Milblogger CDR Salamander points out that this is really an indictment of the schools she attended rather than of her, herself. All those student loans were ill-spent if she came away thinking that Russia wasn't a colonial power. "I think it’s fair to say that they left her with a poor understanding of Chinese, Arab, and Turkish imperialism as well," he adds. "We can just assume Aztec imperialism was ignored as a cherry on top."

The narrative on the Spanish conquest of Mexico is of several hundred Spaniards beating thousands of Aztecs. Which ignores the thousands of Indian soldiers allied with the Spaniards against their common enemy, the Aztec. They didn't like the Aztecs using them for human sacrifice or cannibalism.

The Bantu migrations might not strictly qualify as colonialism, but they are far off from that, either.
