Blinding insights

The Guardian notices that people hate leftists. They're still unclear on why:
Many of them, of course, have arrived at that conclusion thanks to outright bigotry.

“In the US, it goes some way to explaining why more than 75 million voters just rejected the supposedly progressive option, and chose a convicted criminal and unabashed insurrectionist to oversee their lives.”

First of all, I wasn’t even trying to elect anyone to ‘oversee my life.’ Jesus Christ. What do they think we are doing over here?

For that matter, what are they doing over there?

I think if they just keep accusing us of bigotry, we'll slowly stop hating them so much. And then we'll vote to have the right people oversee us.

The same thing they were doing in 2004 when The Guardian initiated a letter-writing campaign to convince residents of Clark County Ohio to vote for Kerry. The campaign was not very successful, though it did succeed in The Guardian receiving some nasty letters to the effect of "stay on your side of the pond, swampy."

From the link:
The tumult of social media and rightwing propaganda has successfully cast progressives as one judgmental, ‘woke’ mass.

You certainly didn't need "rightwing propaganda" to conclude that progressives were a "judgmental, ‘woke’ mass." It's been that way for progressives for quite a while. For example, here are some terms that progressives have thrown at us: deplorable, fascist, Nazi, garbage, what have you. It's not difficult to find progressives using those terms, not difficult at all. Are we supposed to ignore that?

Tom Lehrer wrote a song 6 decades ago which does a pithy summary of why the left is disliked. Tom Lehrer: The Folk Song Army

We are the Folk Song Army
Every one of us cares.
We're against poverty, war, and injustice
Unlike the rest of you squares.

If proclaiming yourself as so much more caring and enlightened and better than "the squares," don't be surprised that "the squares" return that dislike.
