This fellow is probably about 11 feet long. A neighbor snapped that picture from the local beach road, probably about 30 feet away. We'd seen him at that location on the same day.
I'm glad we have bears instead of gators up here. I've lived where there are gators, and the mountains are much nicer; and the bears are more reasonable individuals.

What I used to tease our daughter regarding the large jack rabbits we had in Las Cruces, transplanted:
"Breakfast and a pair of boots (mittens with the rabbits). And leftovers."
