I have to wonder about the underlying data (or government threat) that leads the Security Studies Group not to question whether it was Trudeau's government that stole the database. Which would be straight tyranny, not petty fascism.
It was stolen regardless of who stole it. They didn't bother with any legal process to obtain the information, e.g. via the courts. This is a lawless process, and a lawless government is just a tyranny.
Internet rumor says that the Canadian Security/Intel people had a large role in the data breach and hack, but that's strictly rumor at this point. Apparently at least one US newspaper has also gotten the data set and is e-mailing people to ask why they gave to the truckers.
or that the plantation owner did the chore himself?
Does it matter whether the commander suffers the privations with his men in the winter fields or he holds himself apart in his own comfort? Apparently, for some, it does not. Some suffer others' misery vicariously, and that's enough.
I’m not sure that analogy holds. It’s arguably not important if the slaver whips his own slaves; it’s definitely meaningful whether a commander shares the suffering.
It's a pretty close analogy. The guy in charge has the stones, the integrity, the honesty to do his own work, to share the conditions of his subordinates, or he does not.
Whether the work itself is good or bad is irrelevant.
