Oddly enough the Obama administration definitely screwed up both Syria and Libya, more or less in the same motion. It was Libya first, and then Syria as a kind of finish to the motion.
Not that the Trump administration fixed anything. Both countries are just as bad as if Trump had never existed.
The Libyans have a good option, even: their so-called 'warlord' General Haftar is a US citizen with a long record of working with us. Yet for some reason he's the one guy the USG refuses to entertain; all the Islamist militias, including some Obama had to pull off the State Dept terrorist list in order to fund them, but not the guy who was prepared to work with us all along.
I'm perfectly happy that Trump didn't improve the situation there. Efforts to 'improve' places quite often end up doing exactly the opposite, or some approximation thereof.

Well, y'know, they are all dark Islamic people. Any fifth-grader might make a similar error.

Honest disdain for Islam and all its adherents and manifestations (my preferred approach) is apparently not on the political table.
And of course most Ds couldn't find Libya or Syria on a globe.
