For those of you following the World Cup, this, which my wife ran across:

Interviewer: "Do you think Brazil's 1970 team can beat today's Argentina?"

Pelé: "Yes."

Interviewer: "By how much?"

Pelé: "1-0"

Interviewer: "That's it?"

Pelé: "Well, most of us are over 75 years old now."

Witty remark. I recall a similar remark made by some elderly famous athlete in the US, but don't recall who said it.

Ted Williams, talking about Rogers Hornsby. It has been attributed to others, and may have been a staple of the chicken-dinner sports banquet circuit back in the day.

I read in a Ted Williams biography that when he was manager of the Senators, which would put Ted in his 50s, that he put on a good hitting exhibition.
