That was Richard Fernandez's interpretation of the moves to cut foreign aid to those who vote against us at the UN -- a kind of price signal. Diplomacy may work better if virtue signals cost something.
Everything would work better if virtue signals cost something.
But virtue signals do cost, a lot. It's just that the wrong folks are being charged.
