Yeah, that's pretty much been my impression over the years.
While we're on the subject of Arthur, I must recommend "King Arthur's Wars: The Anglo-Saxon Conquest of England" by Jim Storr. Storr was/is a British Army officer and has walked over a lot of ground (and insists that's the only way to understand some things).
Very interesting discussion. Particularly of choosing the right ground to fight on.
