So I Guess We're Doing This Wall Thing

Immigration orders on deck, including a construction order for 'the Wall.' Over/under on Mexico finally paying for it?

I always figured he'd end up cutting illegal immigration, and then when there's less money being wired back to Mexico via illegals working here say something like 'See- all that money that's not going back to Mexico? That paid for the wall' or some other opportunity cost or savings as 'payment'.

Hopefully Trump chooses an American firm to do the work.

If he chooses this firm, than crony capitalism is alive and well....

I'm not sure what he will or even can do along the payment lines, but I'm willing to bet he'll come up with something that makes a convincing soundbite at least. It probably will be out of the box.

Mexico has some leverage--as one official pointed out, they can refuse to accept deportees. So--somebody needs to make a deal, and it helps to have something to negotiate with. I'd guess that in the end whatever gets built will be paid for by us.

Trum merely has to confiscate the money going back to Mexico, then use that or extort it out of his enemies and rivals. It's pretty easy, since the US froze Iran's assets once a time.

Just have your peasant loyalists or clan family members break up Mexico's financial system. It isn't that difficult, since half of it is black market cartel business anyways.

If I remember correctly, Congress has already authorized the building of (mumble) miles of border wall, of which (mutter) miles have not been constructed. So if he's relying on that for the start, it's pretty easy to do; Obama could have done it at any time.

James, can a country really refuse to accept its own citizens/deny them entry? Legally?

Of course. A country makes its own laws unless its under occupation pursuant to having lost a war, or some such circumstance.

The question is whether it can as a practical matter refuse to take them back. I can think, for instance, of a jobs program for out of work coyotes....

Re: refusal to accept deportees. Just punkin-chuck them over the border fence. ...could have contests for distance & accuracy. ...could have weight categories. ...could take a hint from the Indian casino industry, and have legal gambling tied to it & use the proceeds to pay off construction costs.

Just think of the opportunities for fun & profit!

Refusal is simple: just demand proof that the returnee is actually Mexican. "He said he was" doesn't count.
