A Poor Strategy for a Sailor

Showing disrespect to the flag during Colors is not going to go over well with her chain of command. It's protected free speech when a football player does it. It's a violation of regulations for her.

Yet the Navy isn't going to do anything serious about this.

[U]ntil this country shows that they've got my back as a black woman, that they've got my people's back — not even just my people but all people of color — I just can't. And I won't. Won't stand for our national anthem, she says.

She needs to be discharged. No sailor next to her can trust her to stand until that sailor proves to her satisfaction he's got her people's back. Which means no sailor next to her can trust her to perform.

The Navy really should discharge her, I agree, if she persists in the behavior after some "counseling."

You're more generous than I, Grim. I don't agree that she didn't know the implications of what she did at the time she did it. She needs no counseling warning.
