Yes, that is much better. The wood interior is quite warm. If there's any way to get a little natural light via a lantern or cupola at the intersection of the transept and nave (though it's not really a Latin cross plan, is it?). High ceilings far from gable end windows can become quite dark. It's that way at my parent's church, and I've always been a bit bothered by it. If they can't do that, perhaps some up-lighting into the vault?
Regardless, congratulations on a much nicer church building!
http://www.stpeterbythesea.com/Ministry-Center.html -- It looks like there's cross shape, but unless the narthex space has no interior division, it's a cross with equal arms, maybe. I'm not sure what's going on with the bell tower; it almost looks like some light will be coming down there, in the middle of the nave.
Ah, I see. It's a bit of a stunted Latin cross, and the bell tower/ lantern is above the narthex. Well, still and all, it's pretty nice- much nicer than the original ideas they were batting around!

I didn't see the old one, but that does look nice.
The old design looked like a cross between a WalMart and a dialysis center.
