The great actor James Earl Jones, whose most famous role was probably not Thulsa Doom, has died at 93 years of age. The role, though not the character's name, did make the obituary.
Jones married the actor Celia Hart in 1982, the same year he starred opposite budding action star Arnold Schwarzenegger as an evil sorcerer in “Conan the Barbarian.”

I'll always remember the wonderful interview he did with NPR about being a stammerer, and how a wise, gentle theater teacher and an English teacher helped him discover that if he recited aloud, he no longer stammered or stuttered.

The first time I ever saw him was when I was a child watching "The Great White Hope," in which he was quite unforgettable. It turns out that 1970 movie was a full 6 years after his debut in a bit part in Dr. Strangelove. I loved him in Conan, of course, and he was fantastic as Few-Clothes Johnson in Matewan, an under-appreciated movie that now apparently can't be found anywhere. He was a wonderful Admiral Greer in 3 excellent Jack Ryan movies. My college Shakespeare prof spoke glowingly of his King Lear stage performance.

Jones was commissioned in mid-1953, after the Korean War's end, and reported to Fort Benning (now Fort Moore) to attend the Infantry Officers Basic Course. He attended Ranger School and received his Ranger Tab. . . . Jones was promoted to first lieutenant prior to his discharge."
