The Humbling River

In truth almost nothing I’ve ever done was as humbling as my Swiftwater rescue technician certification. I earned it, but I earned it the hard way.

Got me thinking about songs about rivers. Haggard's "Kern River" comes to mind. Not to take anything away from the original, but I do like Dave Alvin's version quite a bit. Really gets to the reality of the danger of swift water.

On the subject of river songs, "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" gives an entirely different picture of the perils of river-swimming (even through gators!).
