No, what really bothers me is that every time he opens his mouth he says something dumb and/or useless. I don't expect a Congressman to be decent or moral or upright, but I do expect them to be useful. As far as I can tell Cawthorn isn't even useful to his funders or himself.
Therefore it is with some small pleasure today that I notice his defeat in yesterday's primary. He will not be missed.
The general election will be between a Republican who is a member of the state legislature prayer club and shooting club, and an Asheville councilwoman who is a married lesbian mother of three and an ordained Christian minister. This perfectly summarizes the current condition of Western North Carolina.

You can’t use the word Christian and lesbian in the same sentence unless you modify “Christian” By stating “Fake Christian” instead
I can do whatever I want, and whether or not she is really a Christian is neither my call nor yours.
However, I do think that reaction is why she is probably doomed in November. She'll need votes outside Asheville to carry the district, and a lot of this region is very traditional. They might have accepted a lesbian; they might have accepted a "married" lesbian with a wife. But one who is an ordained minister in a Protestant Christian church is going to be an affront to their most basic ideas about what their faith is about, and their faith is the thing they order their lives around. They will reject her more for being a minister than for any of the rest of it.
Good riddance to bad trash. Hopefully your next representative is better. However, I share your dim view of politicians. They are, at best, a necessary evil-and most never rise above the evil to be even moderately necessary.
