When You're Right, You're Right

Apropos of the last post:

Challenge: "Design a wearable solution that can keep women safe."

Accepted: "Didn't Col. Colt and John Moses Browning take care of this over a century ago?"

Turns out. Equality is a function of the firearm.

Is it the improper use of statistics, noting that people who carry guns are more likely to get shot*, or incomplete reasoning, or is it a simple unwillingness to think at all? What is the root cause here?

*Wearing mittens doesn't make it snow. People wear mittens because it's cold.

Buying a present for someone doesn't make it December.

Carrying condoms doesn't get you laid, dude.

People found with spices in their possession are more likely to eventually cook something, too. Not causative.

It's from "Death Proof," part of a double feature called Grindhouse. This was put together by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. It's not one of their better-known efforts, in part because the first part of the double feature is a relentlessly over-the-top gross-out sci-fi horror film. (Rodriguez directed that one, though Tarantino appears in it, as he often does in his own movies.)

It's an interesting project if, like them, you spent a lot of time watching 1970s low-budget flicks. It's mostly an homage to what it was like to go to a 'grindhouse' theater in the '70s and spend an afternoon watching those movies. They put together a set of fake trailers for other such movies, resulting in three of these fake movies getting funded later to be made for real (most famously "Machete").

"Death Proof" is a better film than the rest of the effort, for my money. It's a kind of slasher film, using a 1969 Dodge Charger as the murder weapon. But Tarantino wants you to care about the women who might get killed by the slasher, so there are long sequences involving them before each attempt on them. This is one of those.

The movie ends with a road duel between two beautiful masterpieces of the American muscle car, and is one of the more thrilling car chases you'll ever see.

If you learn how to swim, you are more likely to die of drowning. If you buy fire insurance, you are likely to get burned.

If you eat food, you are likely to choke to death.

If you Disobey the Leftist alliance, you are really messed up most likely.

What else is funny is the people afraid of talking about Lucifer, akin to the Harry Potter universe about V.
