Certainly it's not as immobilizing as some would portray it. Playing hockey, my bag with my pads, helmet and skates has to weigh more than 20 pounds, but once you put them on so the weight is distributed relatively evenly over the body, you really don't notice the weight at all. It's not simply a matter of what something weighs, it's very much about distribution and being secured to the body (or not).

You well know that knights did not wander around in armor like this guy was doing.
You put the stuff on when you are going to fight, and maybe when you are going to train.
