Somehow I have never been familiar with this famous piece, the Emperor Concerto, which I stumbled on recently in a movie soundtrack. Other than recognizing it as Beethoven, I couldn't place it. Now I can't stop listening to it and can't wait for the piano sheet music to arrive by mail. This is the second movement, the Adagio. Look at the transport on the faces of the performers.

Seeing a number of Chinese performers reminds me of the time that my wife and I saw Beethoven's Fifth performed in China. It was performed by the London Royal Philharmonic at a gymnasium in Hangzhou. The orchestra was mightily disciplined, and did not disrupt themselves even slightly when someone's prospective dinner -- a live rabbit -- got free and starting bouncing among them on stage.

Beautiful music.

Funny story, Grim. I would have liked to see that.

Thank you Tex. I needed this more than you can know. Kismet I suppose.

And "they" say that "Beethoven was not a melodist like the Italians were"....

Not hard to hear what Brahms admired, is it?
