Strait is considered one of the greats of Texas country music, but he’s a little late for me. He’s more of a revival figure from the 80s than one of the 70s greats who were revolutionary rather than traditional.
Thus, I’d never heard this piece until tonight. It’s not bad at all.

There is a lot of Western Swing in that song, which greatly pleases me. Bob Wills über alles!
Here is a Clint Black Christmas song, which I present for two reasons. Our grandmothers lived in the same Oklahoma small town. When I found that out, I should have asked if they attended the same church. Second, it is a C&W Christmas song with a religious theme: The Birth of the King. I am not a churchgoer, but I am tired of all the secular Christmas season songs drowning out the songs that I grew up with and which speak to the origin of the Christmas holiday.
Bob Wills was another musical revolutionary, now that you mention it. He was great partly because of his innovations.
It’s still Advent rather than Christmas, so think of the lighter songs as whetting the appetite. We will have great sacred music very soon now.
