This is really a great example of the soul of American musical art- that we aren't bound by genre lines or strict rules, and feel free to "mash-up" different sets of rules, different genres, and create something new in the process. Jazz, Rock and Roll, and Country all mixing the blues, European traditional music, and each other together.
Fair point. It's Big Band's tribute to Western Swing, which itself grew out of Western music's engagement with early Hollywood. "Sons of the Pioneers" and all that. Just a big and growing circle of influences.
