The Family that Slays Together, Stays Together

Dateline Florida: "A home invasion was stopped by almost every member of the family. The family awoke to the noise of the burglar trying to break in and everyone grabbed their guns. One member of the family fired a warning shot through the glass to deter the burglar but was unsuccessful. The intruder broke through the door and which point every member fired at him."

Warning shots are never a good idea. Shoot to stop, or don't shoot at all.

And don't shoot through the glass. The mess, the mess.

I have to ask, though: of all the shots fired, how many hit? How much time do they need on the range?

I agree with Grim on warning shots. Warn of what? The bad guys already know they're doing wrong. Let one of them know he's in immediate trouble when he sees his crony fall.

You have to be pretty out of control to break in the door after you've already been shot at from inside.

out of control or sub-moronic. I vote for door #2.

If you want to warn people, yell. That's how animals communicate and mark territory, often times.

Howl. The Dogs will figure it out at least.

Suppression fire doesn't need to hit.

People don't necessarily know that they are being shot at. They may flinch at loud noises but they don't connect that to attackers until they see them. And even then, they might think they are getting shot out from OUTSIDE, so that actually makes fear move them INSIDE. Heh. A nice trick snipers can use to coral people towards or away from vital points on a map but maybe in this case, it worked less as a warning and more as a catalyst to rush the house.
