Anyone sufficiently removed from the events and considering only the few original documents from the era would reasonably conclude and join the consensus that the King named "Henry" who got crosswise with a noble priest named "Thomas" was a real figure. But whether that Henry lived around 1100 or 1600 might be a serious bone of contention.
