Secular holidays

I understand there's some kind of sporting event on TV late this afternoon.  I made the mistake of going to the store hungry on the way home from church, and came home with armsful of makings for nachos etc.  Even so, my spread won't be up to these standards:

Got my Super Bowl spread ready.

H/t Powerline.

Oh. My. I . . . wow. Now that's a party spread for the ages.
*bows, chanting "we're not worthy, we're not worthy."*

Ours was a carnivore special:
Grilled steak
Fried chicken
Smoked sausage
Lil' Smokies sausages in sauce

I did have chips and dip to hold us until the meat was done, though.

Couple of homemade burritos.

I have a tendency to throw things at the TV when the football players aren't performing up to snuff.

After all, like another man we all know and love, I'm a better quarterback than the quarterbacks, a better middle linebacker than the linebackers, a better offensive/defensive coordinator than the coordinators.

And you choose to supply yourself with burritos?? Well, at least they shouldn't break the t.v. Popcorn might be a good choice...

Burritos are much more satisfying, both for eating and for throwing. Popcorn can't be thrown as hard.

My wife makes me put the football away during the games. And she already won't play catch with me.

Eric, if I didn't know better, I'd think you were my BIL as his name is Eric as well.
And his wife won't play catch with him either...says that's what he has four boys for.

BIL sounds like a good man.

My wife loves football (though she dilutes that with soccer...), though; but I haven't been able to teach her how to catch one, so she's always jamming a finger--which she got tired of.

BIL is a damn fine man. SIL, being a product of Pittsburgh parents, knows all too well how to catch, throw and kick a football, she just refuses to when BIL is at the point of throwing things at the tv. She used to get looks at the kid's bus stop after *certain* Sunday or Monday night games. When she finally asked what was going on, one neighbor told her that they could "hear the arguing and carrying on" and were just wondering if she was ok.
It was BIL yelling at his team for not "playing up to snuff"....so to speak.
The boy is nothing if not passionate.
