A Handsome Beast

Rare to get a photo of the tiny puppy, soon to be a father, not running around in circles banging everything with his teeth like a shark. Conan is going to be a pretty dog when he finally slows down a little. A pretty good dog, too.

He looks fantastic. It'll probably be a couple years yet before he really settles down. How big is he now? The female GS we had when I was a child looked much like your Conan, and she topped out at around 100 pounds when it was all said and done. I well remember her massive paws. A great dog I have many fond memories of.

I'll add a recollection of her younger, wilder days- neighbor dog was coming around near our side gate- chain link- so she got all worked up and wanted to defend our territory- she chewed the bottom of that chain link until she got it undone enough to squeeze out. Fortunately the other dog had gone already. Never really fixed that gate except to weave it back together enough to be a barrier again. I say it's fortunate that the other dog left, as that reminds me of another story- Neighbor's dog was again probing around our house, right up to the front door, so Dad decided to try to chase it away. He cracks the door open to get out and she busts right past him. That other dog (shepherd mix, probably around 70-75#) didn't get fifty feet, to the middle of the street and she had him upside down and was ready to do him in when Dad caught up and pulled her off. Other dog stopped coming around after that one.

I'd guess he's about a hundred pounds now. He's still not fully grown, as you can see from his paws.

He was scheduled to be neutered on the very day that Helene came in, so obviously that got put off. In the meantime I met a family up here while doing rescue operations who had a female purebred they wanted to breed. So he'll get at least one litter of puppies before my wife manages to get him to the vet, which is a happy thing for the world.
