I’ve been talking about all the volunteer help and donations we got during the recent hurricane. Smoky Mountain News wrote up an article about the volunteer air supply effort for those who would like to read more.
I would very much like to have your recommendations as to which private organizations (for example, the Cajun Navy) have been most helpful. I'm too old to help with anything except cash donations but I'm not giving to the plethora of 'gofundme' individuals popping up on Facebook.
I am currently 'covered' by a city fire department and they are fantastic. I'm disabled and when I do have to call 911, I'm happy when the fire department shows up first - they have skills that EMTs don't but lack ambulance and some medication applications. I regularly donate to 2 volunteer fire departments that provide for many of my rural relatives.

Thanks for this, Grim.

These guys were great, but your local volunteer fire department is probably carrying the bulk of the labor.
Thanks for the article. Good to read about all the volunteers helping.
