Back east we have much older mountain chains, more worn down and less dramatic.It takes a long time to break off all those sharp pieces.
Yes, AVI, from what I understand they’re old enough to have been on Pangea. The Appalachian mountains once were the same chain as the Grampian mountains in what is now Scotland. Conceptually, I think of the whole as Cimmeria.
