Now that would be amazing. I'm in no way an expert on the demographics here, but assuming that there is a roughly equal distribution of these qualities across various ethnic groups, black LGBTQ should account for around 13% of the total; and this Gallup poll suggests that trans-* should account for only 10% of that, so 1.3% of the total. But that's all sorts of trans-*, of which transgender women are an additional subset, presumably on the order of half of it. (And that's accounting for the doubling of the rate in the youngest generation, which is an additional weirdness to the numbers we'll ignore for now.)
So that would give us approximately (and admittedly according to very back-of-the-envelope math) 0.8% of the total population being the subject of 50% of the violence. If that's true, it's stunning.
I am always suspicious when percentages appear to be used to avoid giving specific statistics (and vice versa). My reading is that the relevant denominator is not the entire black transgender population but the (unstated) number of people who were victims of assaults.
ReplyDeleteYou probably get part of the way there if the and in "anti-LGBTQ and HIV-affected" means that in fact you have to be both in order to qualify. Still, any time I see a tiny subset of a population accounting for a big percentage of anything I get curious. It's true that black males are approximately 50% of murder victims in America in spite of being only around 8% of the population; but here we are being told that an order of magnitude smaller group is still hitting 50% of the victims. That's wild, again, if it's true.
ReplyDeleteProstitution violence, possibly. HOWEVER, the *actual* number of murders would be useful to know too. Not to be callous, but if we're talking about 10 murders or something, and 5 of those murders were the stated demographic, what's really going on?
ReplyDeleteFair. If the number is very small, the explanation is more likely to be found in the plain facts rather than the statistics.
ReplyDeleteI suspect Eric is correct in both his suspicions of the locus of the problem and of its magnitude. The fact that no quantities were cited suggests that the raw numbers were not dramatic enough, and prostitution-related interactions would seem likelier to violence than mere-coworker interactions.
ReplyDeleteLies, d[yay] lies, and statistics.

ReplyDeleteActually, I think wokistas have been intentionally targeting institutions popular w/ conservative audiences, so this is a natural move for them. It's the march through the institutions continuing.
Prostitution violence, possibly
ReplyDeleteThere have been three murders of trannies in Milwaukee over the last 9 months or so. ALL of them appear to be prostitution violence; that is, the john picks up a "girl" but at a critical moment gets a look under the hood and reacts.........badly. Two of the three homicides were committed by black men and the victims were black (men.) The third case is still open.
A real commitment to equity would require trading approximately half the players of the NBA to the NHL, in exchange for trading NHL players back to the NBA. Forget talent or training! The important thing, from a DEI view, is that such trades would overcome a long legacy of racial imbalances and result in teams that reflect the diversity of the communities in which they play.
ReplyDeleteOr, one can turn off the games and instead read a book.
