Ahem. As a Methodist, I resemble that statement. :) I attend one of the last traditional (pre-1986) Methodist churches, or so it feels some days. We still dress a little better than everyday for worship, except for the guy who has to wear a three-piece suit to work and who spends at least two hours at church for every hour of worship (does audio and tech).

I don't know about the Catholic example- It seems decades out of date. I've seen people wearing shorts to church. I'm happy if people just avoid denim and t-shirts.
