Haley Out at UN

In a move that blindsided nearly everyone, Nikki Haley has resigned as UN Ambassador after a superstar performance at the General Assembly. No one seems to know why she's leaving; she says she's not running in 2020, and Trump says he hopes she'll come back in another role.

I've always liked Nikki Haley. I wish her well.

  1. Maybe it ACTUALLY has to do with 'family time'.

  2. I've been looking everywhere for a hint, but whatever's going on has really been kept under the hat this time. I guess we'll have to wait and see what she does next. That will tell us what she wanted to replace with what. I'm satisfied that it was her choice, anyway.

  3. A report on William Jacobson's Legal Insurrection blog says that Haley spoke to Trump about taking a break after two years six months ago. She's not resigning effective immediately but at the end of the year.

  4. The blindsiding, I claim, is from the lack of a leak: Trump appears to have known about this plan for 6 months.

It does set up a couple of options for a 2024 ticket I could get behind: Nikki Haley for President and Lindsey Graham for VP, unless we need the Republican numbers in the Senate to protect the Supreme Court. Alternatively, Haley with Congresswoman Mia Love for VP. The latter ticket, solid as it would be on its face, would have the minor side effect of its entertainment value from watching the Party of Identity Politics campaign against a ticket with two traitors to their gender and a traitor to her race.

  5. Kudos to anyone who can keep a secret like that for six months. Trump must have learned whom he can trust.

Triple-play, by the way, if the persistent rumors of Graham's sexual orientation are true.

  6. Actually, Haley is of Indian descent, Nimrata Randhawa was her birth name, so 2 traitors on race as well.

According to the All-Knowing Wikipedia, her husband is an ARNG officer and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013. I had no idea.

  7. I had no idea.

And I suspect you're not surprised by having had no idea. Conservatives don't brag, we just do. Unlike folks like John "You've Got a Friend" Kerry, or Richard "Hero of Vietnam" Blumenthal, who make stuff up about which to brag.

This may be the most important aspect of this event.

Here's a random theory- These jobs are high stress, and she does want family time, and perhaps is looking to the future- possible presidential run, and maybe Trump would consider her as Sec State when Pompeo decides he could use a rest. Like come a second term for Trump for instance.

One thing for sure- Nikki Haley seems to have figured out how to be liked by almost everyone.
