Happy Red Plants

Just a small garden this year, but it's happy. These are San Marzano tomatoes, similar to but better than the more locally famous Roma. After this lovely photo I broiled them ruthlessly, combined them with red New Mexican chiles and some chiles moritas, a little salt, a little onion, and some home-grown dried oregano I ground for the purpose. Blended and then fried to reduce and meld the flavors, cool, and it's a delicious but mild sauce.

  1. The San Marzanos in cans are the only thing I will buy for out-of-season tomatoes The produce section is pretty and everything looks promising, even in February, but then is disappointing.

    1. I’m grateful to have found a nursery locally who sells them.
