Yes, we had those even when I was there. The tiny explosions in the sky are the bullets self-destructing so they don’t fall back to earth with enough mass to kill people underneath them.
Also, it's a minigun. It's not a laser.
Oh, I had no idea! So just tons and tons of bullets. What a noise. And it looks like a spacefight with death rays.
