Christmas Day

May God be praised for bringing us all together again on Christmas Day. My gratitude knows no bounds.

Let us feast together as friends and brothers.

"May God be praised for bringing us all together again on Christmas Day. My gratitude knows no bounds.

"Let us feast together as friends and brothers."

I wonder what a feast on a blog would look like? Feasts here are generally potluck, so maybe each of us would add a story or a song or a reflection or a poem? The Christmas feast is 12 days long, so 12 days of dining on delicious words and songs, I suppose.

One day it would be great if all the regulars here could meet up somewhere for a feast of food and drink and conversation.

    1. On my 40th birthday I held a firelit Ceilidh where everyone told jokes or stories, or sang songs, as we went around the fire over and over. It was a good time.

Twelve days of anything is a long time, though. I’m not sure I’m social enough for a feast so long.

    2. Yes, it could be long.

My parish does this. For each of the 12 days, a different family hosts a feast, generally providing the main dish. Everyone who comes brings something -- drinks, side dishes, desserts. I'm not social enough to go to all 12, and I'm not sure anyone is. But making 2 or 3 keeps the season joyful.

Well, if the hours seem like days, maybe folks as asocial as you and me could survive.

It would be a fascinating mix of tales, songs, and dishes, that much I would be willing to wager on. The topics and flavors would be as wide-ranging as the denizens of the Hall, one suspects.

    Merry Christmas, and Happy Hanukkah.

  7. "Aper" ("Boar") I recognized from Latin translations of Asterix (wild boar being the favorite food of Obelix son of Obeliscoidix).
