  2. Hah! We used to see Junior Samples around when I was a boy. He lived in the same county. One time when dad and his comrades from the VFD were doing a controlled burn of a ruined house, he drove by and stopped to watch. After a while he said to a nearby firefighter, “I hate to tell you boys this, but I think that place already burned a few years ago.”

  3. The search bar isn't bringing up a specific trucker songs post, which I'm of the opinion you should remedy. Can I suggest Townes Van Zandt's* "White Freightliner Blues", Sturgill Simpson's** "Long White Line", and Scott H. Biram's "18-Wheeler Fever" and "Truck Driver"?

Come to think of it, Stan Rogers' "Northwest Passage" is technically a trucking song if I've understood the lyrics correctly. Speaking of Canadians, Fred Eaglesmith has "Trucker's Speed", which I love but it breaks my heart a little every time I hear it. Oh, and there's a fun Australian trucker song called "Six Decks to Darwin" by Dean Perrett which makes me think there's a whole genre of Australian trucking songs out there.

*I'm not sure it's original to Van Zandt or a cover. Either way, my dad ran a couple of white Freightliners in the logwoods of the La Sal mountains in Utah back when I was in high school. He'd have me take the trucks from the log loading area to the dirt county road to wait for his driver to return and swap trucks. He soon had me driving down the county road until I met the driver and swap there. Things kept progressing until I was eventually taking the loaded truck all the way to the saw mill. So, this song has some special meaning for me.
**I'm pretty sure this one is a cover.

  4. I did a whole week of trucker songs once, just so I could put "Six Days on the Road" at the end it.

  5. Oh, so you're probably the reason why I know "Six Decks Bound for Darwin" in the first place. Here's a belated thank you for that one.
