The Feast of the Holy Family

The Sunday after Christmas, in years when Christmas itself is not a Sunday, is the Feast of the Holy Family

And to show what they think of the holy family they decide to attack Christians in Jerusalem

    Israel hates Christian’s

Zionists Launch ‘Massive Coordinated Attack’ on Christians in Jerusalem
Israelis even used 'nerve agents' in their attack against Christian faith leaders and community members.

  2. The Jerusalem Post’s version reported that letter, but also the police report that it was Arab Muslims (and that the ‘nonlethal nerve agent’ was pepper spray).

Fog of war and all that, but you really shouldn’t be so gullible. Also, go away. All of us have better things to do than listen to you.

  3. I don't want to be mean, but wasn't the last resident troll more interesting? Sure, delusional, but at least I felt like I'd read a postmodern sci-fi/fantasy vignette when he really got going. Of course, antisemitism is boring, that nonsense having been done to death for more than a millennium now, so I guess he doesn't have much to work with. He should get outside his bubble more, make new friends, read new sources, go new places.

Also, has anyone else noticed the antisemitic commenters showing up around the blogosphere over the last few months? What's up with that? I think this is the third blog I read that this has happened to recently. I don't remember any of this nonsense before 2023 at these blogs.

  4. Well, Tom, if you equate "anti-Semitic" with 1) asking questions or 2) criticizing some Israeli actions or 3) suggesting that the US should keep its nose out of M.E. conflicts, then it is YOU who has a problem.

Grim rightly mentions "fog of war", and unless you are standing on the spot in Gaza collecting irrefutable evidence one way or another, it appears that very responsible people who do have perspective and sources are raising questions about that conflict.

If you really, really, really, believe that Israel is innocent as are newborn babies, then I suggest that you are far more a part of the problem than of the solution.

  5. PS: "very responsible people" does NOT include "Greg" in my mind. But Mearshimer and Blumenthal do not appear to be crazed anti-Jewish types.

  6. Hey, Dad29. Can you point to anything, anywhere, at any time, that I've written that falls into your 3 criteria for being part of the problem? If so, bring it in and we can talk about it.

If not, then let's take a look at your criteria. So, for 1 & 2, you object to accusations of antisemitism just for asking questions about or criticizing Israel. I agree with you. Just because someone questions or criticizes Israel is no justification for writing them off as antisemitic, and doing so may itself be the result of bigotry. I think this applies to quite a large number of topics, not just Israel.

On the other hand, Greg has established his antisemitism in a number of comments threads here, and what he posted in this thread is part of a pattern. I'm here almost every day in the comments and am familiar with his pattern, but maybe you're not. Maybe you came in, just saw this one exchange, and decided I needed to be called on what you thought was a foul. Fair enough.

For 3, I don't think the US military is fit to fight one war right now. Our leadership are utter losers, for one, and I'll just stop there. If you can point out where I've violated your third condition, please point it out.

You also bring up the fog of war, quite rightly. That doesn't just exist in Gaza. It's right here, in everyday human experience. You don't know me, and you didn't bother to do anything to figure out what was going on here before you unloaded at me. Well, it happens. I've done that, and more than once. It's a blog, not a research institute.

To wrap up, again, if you can bring in anything, from anywhere, from any time, where I've fallen afoul of your conditions here, please bring them in. Maybe I made a mistake and we can clear that up. If you don't have anything, that's great. I'm not the problem, for once! :-D

Either way, Merry Christmas and have a happy new year.

  7. Just to be sure, that last sentence may be read as if I'm being sarcastic, in a "bless your heart" sort of way, but that's not my intention. You've posted here some, and I've read a few things over on your blog, so I'm pretty sure you're Catholic. I think the commonality of being Christians is more important than our differences. My wishes are sincere.

  8. This post was titled “The Feast of the Holy Family.” It’s ironic that it became one of the most combative comments sections we have had.

The rules here state “Be kind to your neighbors; be hell to their ideas.” I’m making an exception for Greg because I am tired of him. He’s lucky this is the online Hall and not the biker bar Hall. Unfortunately I have learned that universal tolerance doesn’t work out.

That exception on my part doesn’t change the general rules. You’re welcome to argue ideas, but be kind to each other. I trust your comments are in that spirit.

  9. Tom, if my post offended you personally, I regret that; perhaps I should have not used the pronoun "you" so liberally, substituting "one" instead.

As you probably know from reading other sites, the term 'anti-Semite' is used in ALL the cases I mentioned above. It's one way to create anti-Semites, and a damn good one.

Nothing personal was intended, as the conditional "IF" should have implied.

Merry Christmastide and let's both have a Blessed New Year!

  10. Hey, Dad29. Thank you for that and your good will. I understand perfectly your frustration at that and regret that my comments seemed to play into it.

I opened up that mess by taking a cheap shot at Greg, against my normal policy of not feeding the trolls. My apologies to all for disturbing what should have been a peaceful thread.
