Comedians used to make fun of Donald Trump because he lost money running a casino. I agree, that's funny stuff. It'd be like losing money running an insurance company or a government. Losing money running one of the world's biggest beer companies, though? That's above and beyond.
"One pub in Hell’s Kitchen, a New York City neighborhood known for its large and vocal gay community, reported that Bud Light draft sales dropped 58% this week, while Bud Light bottle sales were down 70%."
ReplyDeleteI bet it really blows their minds that the gay community is on this side of the issue as they probably blithely assume that they're part of LGBTQ+ too, so they'd be for it right? Nope.
@ douglas - in the same way that Trump and a couple of issues split the male and female black communities somewhat. The trans issue is splitting male and female homosexuals. Only somewhat, but it may portend the future. Women who are exclusively lesbian are likely to start feeling isolated, as those are mostly older. Younger women of nontraditional sexuality are all over the map.
ReplyDeleteAs for the ad campaign, I know that Althouse and others are puzzled why Bud Light drinkers even care who else is drinking the stuff. I get her libertarian point, but it's not about permission, it's about association. Colleges try to get you to believe you are part of a club when you go there, so that you will "stay associated" as an alum. Ahem. That's what branding is. Churches do it, though it bothers the heck out of me to see it. Beers absolutely do this. Duh. The taste difference in American lagers is slight. The name and its associations are what they are selling, just adding a little alcohol to it as a reward.
Make bad assumptions and you can lose money doing anything.
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't think you could lose money selling weapons during a war but it's happened before.
The IRS lost money running the Mustang Ranch.
ReplyDeleteheh- good place for the old joke- they lost money with every sale, but made it up in volume.
