Good reflexes

This could have ended worse. Hatchet Guy had recently been released from jail in the Chicago area.

  1. Fortunately hatchet guy was not a strategic thinker. He had all the tools and opportunities he needed, but not the brain.

This was an arrest booking from 12/31/21 http://66.158.36.230/NewWorld.InmateInquiry/Public/Inmate/Detail/-357888

Not a nice person or maybe some rather obvious mental / aggression issues. Officer has 22 years experience and reacted well.

  3. It'd be interesting to learn what Hatchet Guy thought his motive was and what relationship, if any, he had with the traffic stop occupant(s).

  4. E Hines, maybe he was just going for suicide by cop?

  5. That's one motive. Most suicides by cop, though, have more separation between the suicidee and the cop, so the cop has more time to react (even if not by conscious design), or the suicidee is challenging more than one cop in the group.

This one looked like a straight-up attack with murderous, rather than suicidal, intent.

  6. I don't take Hatchet Guy for the contemplative sort. My guess would be zero impulse control. He was probably dead before it occurred to him how it might end. Thank goodness the cop read the situation and didn't hesitate.

  7. Cop did a great job- Situational awareness, create space, ready to draw, repositioned to maintain safe backdrop (don't bring person in car into background), identified threat quickly, Fired until threat ended.
    Textbook.
