Yesterday's "Parting Glass" introduce me to RTE - Raidió Teilifís Éireann, or Radio Television Ireland, which seems like their version of NPR. Here's another from them:
I used to listen to this one when I was kid, and didn't hear it done the traditionally Irish way until much later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSzFvMUasLA

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought this was a banjo. And it doesn't quite sound like a lute, nor does it look to be strung like one. What is the instrument?
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's double-strung, like a mandolin.
ReplyDeleteThat is an Irish bouzouki.

Interesting! I just assumed it was a form of mandolin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that, Tex. What a different presentation! But still beautiful.
