When You Can, Buy Ammo

A friend who has until now not been a gun owner bought a shotgun. It's a 2/3" chambered Mossberg. There's no ammunition for it, not nationwide.

Lay the stuff in when you can, again. It gets short fast.

  1. Our local Rural King is out of ammo. Guns pretty well picked over, too. Living in an isolated house in the woods, I stocked up years ago.

He has to load it manually using a 3d printer for brass casings (less work than a forge I hear), and getting the powder in directly via some kind of loading device/primer.

The World: Sh, that's illegal, isn't it.

Ymar: Ok... obey human Laws then.

Btw, these guns won't be nearly as useful as people think, nor the ammo.

This isn't barter society in Post Apocalypse movie and tv reality.

If the world was ending like that, I would have been told by now and I would have spread the news, as I did before.

Also, I know exactly what some people are thinking. They need ammo to sustain their marksmanship for the "Event", so they think Ymar doesn't know what he is talking about.

Ever hear of dry firing drills? Start using them. The problem with American gun culture is how bound up in traditional "marksmanship theory" it is stuck in. Even Homeland security bought up all the ammo thinking it was going to... do whatever.

  5. No shotgun ammo at all? That is unusual. Even in the year of the zero shotgun shells could be found.

Mankind... if Amis buy any more ammo than they have stockpiled, the Deep State can just do a microwave radiation energy weapon from orbit and all your houses will go up in smoke as the gunpowder cooks off....

    Just think about it.

  7. It's astonishing, isn't it? Cheaper Than Dirt has like 10 ga ammo left, but good luck finding 12 ga.

  8. MidwayUSA seems well stocked with 40S&W. I prefer pistols, anyway for home defense.

It also has 12 gauge shotgun ammo, too.

Their mail order has been straightforward and reliable for me.

  9. I'm a rifle guy myself, but I'm trying to help. This is my second academic philosopher I've helped buy a gun.

  10. By the way, when I search their site, 12 ga buckshot is "out of stock, no backorder."

  11. Yeah, I'd checked my claims before I posted them; they were accurate at the time. I just checked again (25/1646CDT Mar) and saw this on their opening page:

MidwayUSA is an Essential Business! We are open and shipping as fast as we can!

COVID-19 has impacted nearly every person and business around the world. MidwayUSA is no exception. Order volume has increased dramatically and we’re doing everything possible to process and ship orders quickly. Unfortunately, our current shipping backlog is 8+ days and increasing. For this, we’re truly sorry!

To help serve Customers better and to ensure the health and safety of our Employees, here are some things we’ve done and some things we’d like you to know:

    1. We’ve placed Quantity Limits on many high demand products to allow as many Customers as possible the opportunity to order them.
    2. We plan promotions months in advance and order a specific amount of inventory at special prices to support them. Many high demand products in our March and April Flyers have already sold out. Since we don’t know when we’ll receive them again, we’re not allowing backorders on these products.
    3. Since our Suppliers are also swamped with orders, and some have temporarily shut down, we’re not taking backorders on many high demand, out of stock products and some are even Temporarily Unavailable.
    4. Our shipping partners are also swamped with orders and are taking longer than usual to deliver packages.
    5. We’ve stopped taking phone calls, web chats and responding to emails to redirect as many Customer Service Employees as possible to shipping orders.
    6. We’ve temporarily suspended our Customer Order Pickup service to align with the President’s and CDC’s guidance regarding social distancing.

We’re doing our best to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for our Employees while providing the best Customer Service possible under these circumstances. We’re sorry if you’re unable to find what you need and that your order will take longer than usual to arrive. Thanks for your patience and understanding and as always, thanks for your business and loyalty!

They still have one brand of pea-shooter grained 40S&W in limited-size order. They also have a few brands of 12ga (I didn't check the shot size) with order size limits.
