Contrast with this story about Michelle Malkin, where the progressives at tech firms are working to elevate ancient religious norms over modern American ideas of liberty.
i think Tim Pool made a good point about the Michelle Malkin story. He suggested Twitter might actually be doing her a favor. Now she knows to never go to Pakistan lest she run afoul of the authorities for blasphemy. Tough to say if doing Michelle Malkin a solid was really Twitter's intent, though.
The United Methodist vote seems to follow the trend of the Trump vote, the Brexit vote, and the Yellow Jacket protests in France. The elites and leadership want one result (in the UMC case, the bishops/clergy pushed for their long-crafted and much preferred plan) while the laity responded or reacted with a more hastily drafted plan -- which was approved by vote and then sent to a clerical version of the supreme court for additional review (delay, discussion, and deflection.)
This is why a human organization like the Unholy Universal Church pretty much has nothing to do with the ground level troops and believers. I don't need to deal with the ground level troops because they aren't what matters. Any organization needs members to fuel it, but the decisions are usually made at the top.
Anarchy groups like Wallstreet Occupy, are made out of bottom up hierarchies, reverse pyramid triangles, but that isn't an actual organization.
I have spent quite the number of years figuring out how to crack a large scale organization like the Leftist alliance, and later on the Vatican, Deep State, and Cabal.
