    He's paralyzed and on death row. As far as I'm concerned he's entitled to die sooner of starvation if he prefers.

    No, what he prefers is martyrdom. Let him die in the cage of old age. If self-starvation brings his death sooner, I'm down with that. Just not martyrdom.
