Their tagline is: "Ricochet.com is the leading place for civil discussion of the center-right and beyond."
However, they ask $5 a month or $39.99 a year to be a member with full privileges.
From time to time I read the free articles, and generally I like the tone of the place, but that's about the extent of my experience with them so far.
Does anyone have any comments on Ricochet? Is it worth it? Has anyone here tried it out?
Absolutely it's worth it. The discussions on the Member Feed have lots more action, and even though the vitriol can get going, it's a well moderated system, so things don't get out of hand.
ReplyDeleteThere's a broad range of podcasts, too, that many find highly interesting (I don't listen to radio much at all; I've grown too visual, so I can't recommend them based on my own experience).
Their basic membership is cheaper than the trial month, on a per month basis; I recommend a year of that for the trial.
Full disclosure: my wife and I are investors in Silent Cal Productions, LLC, which owns Ricochet, and I'm on Silent Cal's board of directors.

Thanks. I think I'll give it a whirl. What does Silent Cal do?
ReplyDeleteSilent Cal doesn't do anything but run Ricochet.
ReplyDeleteI also don't advertise my relationship with Silent Cal. It's not a secret; I just prefer my posts and comments to be read as coming from a fellow member rather than from someone with a relationship with management.
Eric Hines
Sure. I won't say anything about it there.

ReplyDeleteWho knew we had such high-tone companions here in the Hall? I've never even heard of Ricochet, whatever it may be.
Hmm, High toned:
ReplyDeleteFrom various definitions:
adjective
1. having high principles; dignified.
2. having or aspiring to good taste, high standards, or refinement:
He writes for a high-toned literary review.
3. affectedly stylish or genteel.
1. having a superior social, moral, or intellectual quality
Well, Grim, depending on how you mean it, I've always thought of the Hall as 'high tone'- in the good way.
Etymology: 1779 of musical pitch, 1807 of morality, from high (adj.) + tone.
