Apparently this is a yearly event, and there's always some jerk that puts something in the pillowcase besides a pillow. This year, there were a lot of them, and they swung with intent to inflict serious bodily injury, and did inflict serious injuries.
I would consider it a test of judgment, and wash out anybody who did that. This school is supposed to produce people who can act according to both our laws and legitimate orders under intense pressure. Somebody failed.
I have to wonder if part of the problem was having the wearing of headgear be 'required'. I mean, if you figure they have improved defenses, then it motivates a corresponding desire to increase firepower. Make headgear and body armor verboten and I think they'll all get that you don't put hard objects in your pillowcase (unless you're actually trying to hurt people and/or be punitive).
Duffel has better disinformation than what the US had during Iraq or Vietnam. They should have been put in charge of the State Department's espionage selling to the Chinese and Russians, not HRClinton and Hussein's VJ.
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out who thought that was a good idea.

Valerie
That would be the upperclassmen that oversaw the event, and to a lesser extent, their staff overseers, I suppose.
