As I said, it's lighthearted. And language may be one area in which this is perfectly legitimate. But something that began as a clear example of a wrong use, if it becomes popular enough, is inducted into the rulebook as correct.
In language it's not so bad. But ah, it isn't just language.
I could blame George Orwell, but I really think this is exactly what happens when language evolves.
