Turns out he tried to escape down the overflow from the tub. Didn't work out for him, in the short term. In the long term, though, it's much better for him. He's doing time in a big plastic trash can until we find a better habitat. Going to grow the basement dragon up big and strong before we turn him loose to eat the mice.
We agreed on "Ratbane," from the names you recommended. I liked several of the entries, but I'm not the only vote around here.
When I was seven, my mom woke me up to tell me there was a big black kingsnake in the yard. I was so excited, I ran out in my underwear and found an eight foot prize specimen hanging in one of our scots pines.
ReplyDeleteI grabbed him behind the head, but a bit too far back, and he bit me on the wrist. I tried another grab and this one was worse. He managed to get on the arm a few times. I kept trying.
After six bites on the face, and thirty or so on my hands and arms, I decided that this snake did not want to be a pet. I let him slither away, and he sure was glad to do so.
When I got back to the house, mom saw all the bites, and was quite panicked. The pediatrician and I managed to calm her down.
Bob, now that's a great story!
ReplyDeleteAnd Ratbane is a very respectable name for a basement dragon, and something to live up to, as well.
