Independence Day



Pause and reflect.
When in the course of human events  it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation...

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures....

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures....

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation...

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:...
You can make a lot of distinctions here, if you care to do so.  But there's a lot to compare, however carefully you wish to contrast.

Happy Independence Day.  Maybe it's time for a little rebellion.

UPDATE:  Dr. Mead has composed a modernized version of the Declaration.

    As to that Declaration stuff....that's so 1700's.

    In THIS era, we have the Ruling Class (not just a King) to guide, lead, and help us.

  5. Read somewhere that the Food Stamp Pushers were having a hard time convincing the "mountain folks" that giving up their "pride" and "independence" was a good idea.
    Damn article almost made me barf-
    I was brought up to believe hard work, independence,and self reliance, were virtues. That it does not matter your education level, or income, or what you do , but that it is a good thing, an admirable thing,to to work and support your family.
    And these Cursed Vermin are actively trying to destroy that sense of pride and honor.
    When I read that it became clear the Cloward-Piven strategy is a real and active process- they are striving to get us all dependent on someone else's money.
    My Mom always told us kids- there is no such thing as "free"-if you take Government (or anyone elses) money, there are strings attached-the Cursed Vermin are building an army of obligees. (did I just invent a new word?LOL) to do their bidding.

    Raven, I had an economics prof say that the only free goods were air, cats (not kittens), and zucchini.

    And I read the same article. Getting instructions about how to break down people's pride and independence? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

    Yeah, I read that too.

    Maybe we should fight such ideas by pointing people to reading material such as -The Price and Responsibilities of Freedom-?

    Finally, another one of those things many of us will never forget:

    I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.
