The No Rally

Maybe two hundred people came out for the rally today, although a lot of the crowd were cops in uniform. Signs were surprisingly negative.

No:
* Kings
* Capitalism
* Crooks
* ICE
* War(s)
* New Wars
* Attacking ‘Civil Servants’

This movement is, in other words, purely conservative. It stands astride history, yelling “Stop!”

  1. They were too busy with those repetitive chants these things always have to even look for one.

  2. What did the age mix of the attendees look like? I keep seeing posts that attribute the 'NO' rallies (and 'wokeness' generally) to Boomers, but surveys I've seen show that these attitude clusters are actually a lot more common among younger people.

    1. Quite geriatric. I’ve rarely seen such a collection of wheelchairs and oxygen bottles in public. There is a local university so there was also a cadre of young women, and a few young men courting them, but mostly between older and quite elderly.

  3. I wonder why the turnout at the rallies would be different from the age mix of the people w the appropriate political beliefs?

    1. Motivation, I guess. The young like the excitement of feeling like they matter -- which is an illusion, as we know who are older. The very old feel they have only this last chance to affect outcomes.

    2. Is that really the case? My kids are as apolitical as they can manage to be, finding the whole thing distasteful (rightly so, I only tell them that they will eventually find that they will be forced to be interested out of self-preservation). This seems to be a very popular position with Gen Zers.

    The local protesters were all over 60, or looked over sixty. Since it wasn’t a work day, I was mildly surprised by the lack of young people, although a big city track meet might have drawn some away. It was a couple dozen people.
