The Riots of Ballymena

Days of riots in Ireland follow a reported rape attempt by Romanian immigrants. There are reports that the Ulster Volunteer Force and its allies are working together with the Irish Republican Army and its allies to fight the police attempting to stop the riots.

Interesting times. We've heard a lot about LA, but few have mentioned Ballymena in County Antrim.

  1. Some sources say Romanian-speaking, others say Roma

    1. That was my first thought as well. The rest of Europe uses
"Romanian" as a shorthand for Romanian Roma.

It sounds like a more organized version of what happened in the south after the woman and children were attacked outside a school. The high immigration levels in Ireland led to a lot of urban social tension.

For what it is worth, the graffiti I saw in early news photos said “Roma.” So people believe it was Gypsies/Roma, or at least they did when things started.

I kinda had a feeling all that Irish weaponry was still around. Interesting times, indeed. It's a shame Jack Higgins is no longer with us.
